The Best Hotels in Amsterdam Red Light District

by Maja Świątnicka

Some time ago, I’ve published an article about cheap hostels in Amsterdam Red Light District. Then, many questions arose – many of you wanted to know if I could also recommend some hotels in the same area. The answer is – of course! It’s one of the most popular areas in the whole city, after all. I’ve prepared a list of my favourite hotels (and apartments) in Amsterdam Red Light District then. I’ve decided to include various price ranges so that all of you can choose something suitable and affordable. All recommendations I put on the list are available at booking.com. Enjoy!

City Break Amsterdam B&B

???? From 176 Euro for a Twin Room with private bathroom
???? Lange Niezel 12/1, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 GT Amsterdam

???? 9.4

The building City Break Amsterdam B&B is located at, was built in 1600’s. It’s not very big but for sure it’s stylish. It’s worth mentioning that City Break Amsterdam is a bed&breakfast type of property. The host – Ria – is a lovely woman who loves travel and culture enthusiasts. The hotel is located right next to the Museum Ons’Lieve Heer op Solder and Dam Square. The iconic Red Light District is literally a block away. You can walk to Central Station in 7 minutes. The airport is around 18km from the venue.

Rooms & Amenities

What I really appreciated, the rooms are surprisingly quiet which is not very often in the area. Good night sleep in the very center of the city – well done, City Break Amsterdam B&B! Be aware that the building has no elevator and the traditional Dutch stairs are extremely steep. Continental breakfast is included, it’s served between 7 – 10 am.

Canal View Apartment Amsterdam

???? From 169 Euro for a Deluxe Apartment
???? Warmoesstraat 45-A, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 JG Amsterdam
Phone: +31 6 30444426
???? 8.8

Canal View Apartment Amsterdam is technically not a hotel, but a bed and breakfast service. I have decided to add it here anyway because this is one of the best locations to stay at in the Red Light District area. It’s only 300 meters from Museum Ons’Lieve Heer op Solder and around 600 meters from Basilica of St. Nicholas. You can reach Rijksmuseum and the Joordaan in 15-20 minutes on foot. The airport is located 18km from the property.

Rooms & Amenities

Canal View Apartment Amsterdam is an elegant, very clean property. Each apartment consists of 1 or 2 rooms, a bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen. Rooms have lake and river views. When it comes to dining, only breakfast option is available. However, not a problem in this neighbourhood. The venue is literally surrounded by bars and restaurants. There’s also a casino at the very same location. You can also rent a bicycle at the venue. The property also offers a paid airport shuttle service.

Hotel Luxer

???? From 165 Euro for a Twin Room
???? Warmoesstraat 11, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 HT Amsterdam
Phone: +31 20 330 3205
???? 8.8

This 3-star hotel might not be very impressing at first sight, but it’s really convenient (and I’m not only talking about its perfect location). The Luxer is cozy and very easy to reach by car, as there’s a public car park nearby. Hotel Luxer is located not even 200 meters from Central Station. Dam Square is around 0.5km away and Leidseplein – around 1.8km. You can reach the airport in 15 minutes by car. If you like walking, you can reach Westerpark in 20 minutes on foot.

Rooms & Amenities

The hotel was renovated in 2012. However, as it was built in 1970, it still has a royal-style charm. The rooms are comfortable, all have private bathrooms. What I really like, the hotel is extremely clean. There is also a nice lounge. The hotel is 100% non-smoking. No pets are allowed. Breakfast is optional. It costs 12.50 Euro.

NH Collection Amsterdam Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky

???? From 233 Euro for a Superior Double Room
???? Dam 9, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 JS Amsterdam
Phone: +31 20 554 9111
???? 8.7

This 5-star hotel is located on the edge of Dam Square, right opposite the Royal Palace. Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum are within a few-minute walk. It takes 15 minutes to get to Central Station on foot and around 25 minutes to the airport by car. The hotel is located in the historic 19th-century building, it still has amazing parquet floors and stylish furniture. However, the venue is quite modern though.

Rooms & Amenities

NH Collection Amsterdam Grand Krasnapolsky has 451 spacious rooms. Some of them have a picturesque canal view. Each hotel has an espresso maker and an iPod dock. The hotel has an amazing winter garden where royal dinners have been hosted. Breakfast is optional – it costs 35 Euro. At the hotel, there’s an exceptional restaurant. Its modern cuisine even got a Michelin star. There’s parking available for guests for 50 Euro per day.

Manikomio

???? From 117 Euro for a Basic Room with shared bathroom
???? Oudezijds Voorburgwal 242B, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 GK Amsterdam
Phone: +31 6 22067960
???? 8.6

Manikomio, the hotel located in the very heart of the city, is a great base for further city exploration. Leidseplein and Rembrandt Square are around 1km from the hotel. The shopping street Kalverstraat is 250 meters away. Central Station is 800 meters away. In 25 minutes you can reach Vondelpark on foot. The airport is within a 20-min drive from the hotel. Right next to the hotel there is a metro station – Weesperplein.

Rooms & Amenities

Most rooms have a breathtaking city view. A great drawback is a shared bathroom. However, Manikomio’s charm is unbreakable – it’s still worth staying at. I guess, no breakfast option is available.  However, it’s the very center of the city! There are so many bars and restaurants nearby.

However, breakfast is not included in price. There’s also a nice-looking patio – perfect for some afternoon chill.

St Christophers Inn at The Winston

???? Warmoesstraat 129, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 JA Amsterdam

???? 8.1

This award-winning hotel (it has won Amsterdam’s Hoscars a few times) is located right next to the Red Light District. It’s actually more a hostel than a hotel but still, its standard is quite satisfying so I’ve decided to put it on my list. You can reach Amsterdam Central Station in 10 minutes on foot. Rembrandtplein is only 14 minutes away, same is Anne Frank House. You can easily get to the Dam Square – there’s a tram stop there (it will take you to Leidseplein and Museumplein in as little as 20 minutes).

Rooms & Amenities

Rooms are individually decorated. Some of them have bunk beds. Most of rooms have private bathrooms but not all of them so make sure you check it before booking. Anyway, the rooms are modern and the atmosphere is just unique. The hotel has a nice restaurant – The Belushi, as well as a beer garden and pool table. There are also a smoking room and the hotel’s private nightclub. If you’re a party animal, you just cannot miss out on St Christophers Inn at the Winston while in Amsterdam. If you’re the opposite, the atmosphere may be a bit too overwhelming for you. Breakfast is included. Besides, hotel guests are entitled to get a 25% discount on the entire menu at the restaurant. And shh… you can buy an Apple Sourz shot for 1 Euro!

Hotel CC

???? From 98 Euro for a Standard Twin Room
???? Warmoesstraat 42, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 JE Amsterdam
Phone: +31 20 527 0027
???? 8.0

This is one of the most recommended places in the Red Light District. Located in 3 historical buildings, the hotel now looks modern and comfortable. The interior is elegant and classy, I especially love wooden beams and huge windows. Amsterdam Central Station is only 350 meters away from the hotel. You can reach Dam Square and Madame Tussauds in 5 minutes on foot and the Rembrandt Museum, Amsterdam Museum and Flower Market in around 10 minutes.

Rooms & Amenities

Hotel CC is, in my opinion, more than a 3-star hotel. The heritage character of the buildings fits really well with modern yet classic décor. Rooms are very comfortable, all have bathrooms with a shower and toilet. Breakfast is optional. It costs 12.50 Euro per person. You can also arrange an airport shuttle service (on request). What isn’t very often in Amsterdam, the hotel has an elevator.

Hotel Doria

Amsterdam Museum and Begijnhof are within a 7-minute walk. Central Station is 30 minutes away but you can easily get there by tram – the Dam tram stop is located 200 meters from the property. The tram will also take you to the Kalvertoren shopping center (in 5 minutes) and to the museum district (a 15-minute ride).

Rooms & Amenities

Rooms at Hotel Doria are not luxurious but they are cozy and clean. All 38 rooms located on 5 floors have private bathrooms. There aren’t many unique amenities but still, the standard is satisfying for the price you pay. Breakfast is included. It’s served in the breakfast area every morning. There’s also an on-site restaurant – Ristorante Doria – where you can try some decent Italian meals.

Hotel Old Quarter

???? From 165 Euro for a Double Room with canal view
???? Warmoestraat 22, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 JD Amsterdam
Phone: +31 20 626 6429
???? 7.3

The hotel is situated around 300 meters from the Central Station. You can reach Dam Square in 5 minutes on foot. In less than 5 minutes you can walk to the Royal Palace and Madame Tussauds. Anne Frank House and the Museum Square can be reached in 20 minutes by tram. The building itself is amazing – it’s a historic 19th-century building (a narrow townhouse with typical old façade) overlooking one of the beautiful canals.

Rooms & Amenities

Each of 50 rooms at Hotel Old Quarter is individually decorated. Most rooms have private bathrooms but some have shared bathrooms. All the rooms were renovated in 2017 – they are still royally elegant but also modern and minimalistic. The venue serves breakfast in the hotel restaurant every morning. However, it’s not included in price – breakfast costs 10 Euro per person. I also liked relaxing at the Hotel Old Quarter’s bar – I must say, they serve pretty good drinks and a selection of continental beers. Unfortunately, no parking is available on-site but there’s a public parking nearby.

The Old Nickel Hotel

???? From 161 Euro for a Twin Room with a private bathroom
???? Nieuwe Brugsteeg 11, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 AG Amsterdam

The Old Nickel Hotel is located right next to Central Station – you only need 3 minutes to get there on foot. Dam Square is 650 meters away. Van Gogh Museum is a bit more than 2km away and Leidseplein – 1.8km away. Very close to the hotel there is a tram stop – Martelaarsgracht. The hotel offers bicycle rental so if you want to discover Amsterdam by bike, here you go!

Rooms & Amenities

The hotel is quite small (it only has 25 rooms) but this actually makes it very cozy. Some of the rooms are situated in an annex building. These rooms include a storage space and a private balcony. All 25 rooms have private bathrooms. The Old Nickel Hotel has a unique bar with a jaw-dropping paneling. It’s made from original wood that comes from a 17th-century ship of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter. Isn’t it cool? Another plus – the bar serves over 70 different beers.

Hotel 55 City Center

???? From 138 Euro for a Standard Twin Room
???? 55A Warmoesstraat, Amsterdam City Centre, 1012 HW Amsterdam
Phone: +31 6 52546464
???? 7.6

Hotel 55 City Center is located not even 2 kilometers from Rembrandt House, as well as from Dutch National Opera & Ballet. 3km away you’ll find the Royal Palace. Museum Lieve Heer op Solder and Basilica of St Nicholas are just around the corner. The nearest airport is Schiphol – 18km from the property.

Room & Amenities

The hotel is cozy and quite comfortable. A plus for very clean rooms. As in many Dutch properties, there are very steep stairs. What’s more, guests staying at the ground floor and the 1st floor can be annoyed by noise. The hotel is non-smoking.

Hotel Royal Taste

???? From 105 Euro for a Double Room

The hotel is situated right next to Tembrandtplein, alongside on of the busiest Amsterdam’s canals – Oudezijds Achterburgwal – which makes the view nothing but stunning. At the same time, this very place plays host to many of the famous sex shows. You can reach the Royal Palace or Central Station in 10 minutes on foot. There’s a tram station (Waterlooplein) nearby so if you’re planning to explore the city, this is a good place to stay at. The hotel offers bike rental.

Rooms & Amenities

Hotel Royal Taste has a unique, vintage rooms. All 12 rooms are uniquely designed. If you’re a fan of retro style, you will love this place. Unfortunately, no parking is available. Breakfast is not included, but the hotel offers a traditional Dutch breakfast for an extra fee. Also, you can have a coffee or a drink at the hotel bar. There’s also a nice terrace to relax at. All rooms and public areas are non-smoking.

Summary

Amsterdam is a city everyone should visit at least once. And while in Amsterdam, you just cannot miss out on visiting Red Light District, it would literally be a shame! Probably nothing can ruin your visit more than a wrong place to stay at. All venues from my list guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
