Traveling to Amsterdam soon? If you are looking for a relatively cheap place to stay, you have come to the right place. After some research, I have prepared a list of 15 hotels, hostels and apartments in Amsterdam for those who want to make the most out of their visit and stick to the budget at the same time. Who said you cannot explore new places and save some money? Here you go, this is your guide – let me know if you’ve tried any of the hotels from the list.
Best Western Amsterdam
The hotel is situated in the west part of the city. You can easily reach the city center in several minutes by car or in approximately 20 minutes by public transport – the Dam Square is just a stone throw away. World Fashion Center, World Trade Center and RAI Convention Center are around 15 minutes away by metro. Best Western has been rated as one of the best hotels when it comes to value. It means that when you compare it with other properties in the city, at Best Western you get more for your money. What I really like there is that the hotel is a 100% smoke-free one. It’s modern and comfortable. Besides, they offer quite a nice Dutch breakfast buffet. The atmosphere is warm and intimate. Highly recommended!
New West Inn Amsterdam
New West Inn Amsterdam is conveniently situated in a peaceful Amsterdam West. You can drive to the center of the city in as little as 15 minutes. The Mosque Foundation Arrabitha Al-Islamia is within walking distance and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam is within a 10-minute drive. There is also a large shopping area nearby. A tram stop is almost literally located on the doorstep. The hotel is modern and quite comfortable. It was opened in 2007, then renovated 4 years later. There’s an outdoor pool with a poolside snack bar. In the summer you can spend time relaxing on a sunny terrace and sun loungers. Rooms are comfortable – all of them have an amazing view of the mountain. In some cases, bathrooms are shared. There are a free gym area and a fitness center.
XO Hotels Blue Square
This 4-star hotel is much cheaper than it should be, at least in my opinion. Situated very close to the center of the city, it’s around 20-minute walk from the Sloterdijk station and right next to the Burg de Vlugtlaan bus stop so you can get the city center quite quickly. The hotel is just lovely – it has been redecorated so that it looks a bit royal –ish. XO Hotels Blue Square is a good choice for visitors who love shopping – if you’re one of them, you will find so many shopping centers nearby! By the hotel, you’ll find free parking. What I absolutely love is a view of a garden (almost all the rooms have it) and a large buffet breakfast. There is also a private pool so if you’ve time to do some sports, you can easily make it at XO Hotels Blue. What is more, active guests can enjoy some canoeing and cycling.
Hotel New Kit
A hidden treasure in Amsterdam West. The hotel is located in the Kolenkit neighborhood. It was partially named after the church located nearby – the Resurrection Church that was better known as the Kolenkit. Hotel New Kit is quite big – it’s a 17-story residential tower. It’s almost 60-meter high! The hotel offers over 60 rooms. The location is awesome. You’ll find the tram 7 and the bus 21 stopping right at the doors, the metro is also close. 1 metro stop and you’re at Station Sloterdijk, 3 stops and you’re at Station Lelylaan (1 stop from the Schiphol airport). On top of the great location, there’s an extensive hotel service – it includes dry cleaning, tour/ticket assistance, and luggage storage. The hotel is 100% smoke-free which I consider as a big plus. Hotel New Kit is especially recommended to travelers interested in convenient public transport and exploring the old town.
Have you ever stayed at a hotel that is a boat at the same time? If not, time to change it. If you want to dive deeply into a truly Amsterdam adventure, book a room at a unique 3-star hotel on a boat situated on the River IJ at the NDSM Wharf. Each room has a private restroom and a private bathroom. Twice per hour, a free 10-minute ferry service to Amsterdam Central Station is arranged. There’s also a currency exchange and luggage storage. All 175 rooms have blackout curtains. The hotel has video games, as well as bike- and car-rental service. If you want to spend your Amsterdam time close to the city center and if nightlife and city exploring are your things, Botel might be the best choice for you.
GR8 Hotel Amsterdam Riverside
A nice-looking, friendly hotel, especially for those who want to explore the old town and soak the atmosphere of Amsterdam. You’ll find the Rembrandt House within around 10 kilometers and Johan Cruijff Arena within 5 kilometers. The Gr8 Hotel Amsterdam Riverside is focused on people on the move, therefore the location is ideal, next to the A9. They offer rooms of good quality (a part is renovated in 2019) against a good price value. At Gr8 Hotel Amsterdam Riverside breakfast is always included in the room price and served by their partner La Place. What I also liked about the location is that there is a nice open terrace at La Place, just amazing for the breakfast, lunch or dinner. As the area is quite popular for cycling, Gr8 Hotel Amsterdam Riverside offers you bikes to rent to explore the area of Amsterdam.
If you have come to Amsterdam by car, no problem – the hotel offers a parking area for 12,5euro per 24 hours.
XO Hotels Infinity
What is really positive about the XO Hotels Infinity is that the location is just superior. The hotel is situated close to the city center, no problem with reaching main stations or landmarks. For example, Sloterpark and Sloterplas are just a 20-minute walk away and the Rembrandt Park – approximately 40 minutes. World Fashion Center, Foodhallen and Vondelpark are around 4.5 kilometers from the hotel. Driving to Schiphol airport will take you approximately 15 minutes. The hotel itself is ok, no big surprise, no luxury, but for the abovementioned price it’s just ok. It’s 100% smoke-free, the price includes breakfast. In front of the hotel, you will find a shopping center – there are supermarkets, convenience stores, and a bakery. A minus for parking – the hotel offers parking spaces of course, but there is an extra fee – from round 14 Euro a day.
A real lucky strike for those who want to spend as much time as possible in the very center of the city. AmicitiA is a boat hotel, comprising 17 rooms. It’s situated in the vicinity of Red Light District which might be a huge plus for some of the travelers. It’s around 1 kilometer from Amsterdam Central Station and from the Oude Kerk church. Also, a palace is just a short stroll away. The hotel is furnished in a traditional way, so no fancy gadgets and modern decorations. Each cabin has heating and a hand basin. However, be aware that there are shared bathrooms. The hotel is one of the Amsterdam hotels that have been rated the best value. There is a chance to rent bikes and explore the local area. AmicitiA also offers a few restaurants and cafes.
A real must-go if you are looking for a unique, unforgettable hotel. It’s located around 15 minutes from the airport by car, a 9-minute walk from the Diemen Zuid Station and Venserpolden Station. You can also walk to the city center easily – it will take you a bit more than an hour. The location is so convenient – you have quick and direct access to all the city’s main destinations. Via Amsterdam is cool and full of arst. It’s just a beautiful, cozy place with amazing customer service. No matter if you are just a tourist or a business traveler, this a great choice for accommodation. A vast array of service includes daily housekeeping and ticket service. There are also billiards and karaoke – this will definitely make your stay even more fun. Guests also have access to a shared kitchen.
The Student Hotel Amsterdam West
The first thing that comes to my mind while thinking about the Student Hotel Amsterdam West is that it’s just buzzing and enormous. There are more than 700 rooms. The building is located in Amsterdam West, close to the lakes and the Sloterpark. It’s a great place for travelers who want to stay relatively close to the center of the city but also want to spend some time in the bosom of nature. You can rent a bike and get to the center in around 10 minutes. 100 meters from the hotel there is a metro station – Jan van Galenstraat. If you like walking, you just have to take a 15-minute walk to the lovely Rembrandtpark! When it comes to the quality, the Student Hotel Amsterdam West is ok – it’s clean and the rooms are spacious. There is a fitness center, a bar, and a smoke-free restaurant. There is also a cafe.

It’s situated right next to the famous Vondelpark. In around 5 minutes you can get to the Rijksmuseum, casino at the Leidsesquare or the club Paradiso. There are also many shopping streets in the neighborhood. So, if you feel like some serious shopping at famous luxury boutiques, staying at Hotel Vossius Vondelpark might be a good first step. You can reach Roelof Hartplein tram stop in around 15 minutes by foot and Frederiksplein in around 16 minutes. All 40 rooms are decorated individually.
Hotel Zwanenburg Amsterdam Airport
Hotel Zwanenburg is a bit far away from the city center. However, it’s worth considering, as the price is attractive and it’s quite close to the airport. It’s especially perfect if you plan a business trip at a reasonable cost. The hotel is located in the middle if Zwanenburg, quite close to the center of Haarlem. It offers free parking and there’s an option to order breakfast in the breakfast room in the morning. There is also an on-site bar. If you want to stay at Hotel Zwanenburg during the summer, be aware that there is a special fee for air conditioning – 10 Euro per day. What might sound cool, Hotel Zwanenburg provides its guests with a free airport shuttle to and from Schiphol. However, the service is only available for your check-in and check-out. The duration with the shuttle takes around 15 minutes.
Bastion Hotel Amsterdam Amstel
One of the affordable top-choices for families – Bastion Hotel is one of the most family-friendly hotels in the city. The hotel is a 3-star one – it provides you with comfort, air-conditioning, minibar, and free parking. It’s a 2-minute drive away from the A10 motorway. It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach Central Station by public transport. Metro is located as little as a 7-minute walk. Thanks to the hotel’s convenient location, you have relatively easy access to all main attractions of the city. Breakfast is included. There is also a nice on-site bar and a lobby with free internet. The rooms are small but very clean and cozy. If you’re lucky, you will have a coffee machine in your room. The spot is especially recommended for those who want to try famous Amsterdam’s nightlife but watch their wallets at the same time.
Het Hart van Weesp
For some people, a 2-star hotel Het Hart van Weesp is not actually an Amsterdam hotel. However, it’s situated approximately 12 kilometers from the center of the city so let’s just call it an Amsterdam spot. Especially because it’s just worth visiting. It is located in the historic center of Weesp, a 7-minute walk from a train station. You can reach the center of Amsterdam in 15 minutes and Schiphol airport in 30 minutes. I would say that Het Hart van Weesp is a little bit of affordable luxury. It’s loved by cyclists – you can rent a bike from the hotel and explore the beautiful area near the River Vecht. Rooms are comfortably furnished and en-suite, for me just perfect for a lovely vacation of you want to avoid crowds but have access to the center of Amsterdam at the same time. It has a terrace and a nice bar.
Rembrandt Square Hotel
One of the top choices you can make while choosing a relatively cheap hotel in Amsterdam. It’s not even 1 kilometer from the city center – a 10-minute walk from the Dam Square and the Rijksmuseum. It’s situated in one of the most vivid areas of the city – Rembrandt Square. What is the most unforgettable at Rembrandt Square hotel is that their rooms are just beautiful. It’s like you might never want to check out. The rooms have shared bathroom which is a minus, but a price is definitely a plus – it’s almost impossible to find a hotel at an around 100-120 Euro price within 1 kilometer from the center of Amsterdam, trust me. The hotel is just perfect for people who are interested in nightlife and walking – in this area, among the others, you will find the Kalverstraat shopping area where you can shop for the most popular brands.
Dahli’s Boutique Apartments
???? Prices start at 130 Euro for a double room
???? Utrechtsedwarsstraat 51B, 1017 WC Amsterdam
???? 1.4km to the city center
Dahli’s Boutique Apartment is probably a number one among the cheap hotels in Amsterdam. At least in my opinion. The apartments are located in a charming, 19th-century building. The building itself looks quite modern though. The apartments are almost in the city center, the Rembrandt Square is as close as 300 meters away. Van Gogh Museum is within a 15-minute walk. Each apartment has a small kitchenette, so it’s a perfect choice for a longer stay. It includes a coffee machine, a kettle or an oven and a dressing room. All rooms look on to the garden. There’s also a nice place to eat in the neighborhood – Heavenly Made With Love within a 5-minute walk. And a famous Bar Moustache is situated only 100 meters away. Dahli’s Boutique Apartments are a great choice for those who are looking for some nightlife activities, walks and architecture adventures.
If you are looking for a chic, elegant place to stay while in Amsterdam, this is your place to choose. Continental furniture, light wooden flooring, muted colors – at Apartments Prinsengracht you definitely feel at home. There is an amazing staircase and original beams that make the spot look nothing but unique. Okay, maybe this is not a very cheap place to stay, but it’s definitely worth every cent. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen. There are gorgeous large windows so light can flood into the apartment, and a stylish black tiled bathroom is just beautiful. This place is a great choice for those who are crazy about shopping – there are many popular brands nearby.
See? No need to throw money around – it’s possible to find an affordable hotel in Amsterdam, even if the city is considered to be one of the most expensive ones in Europe. Most of the hotels are not situated in the center of the city and this might be a problem for some people. However, they are all easily accessible by public transport. I am also working on a similar list of the hotels located in the very center of Amsterdam. Stay tuned, it’s coming up soon!
